Jazmine Sullivan

JazmineJazmine, a Philadelphia native was born and raised there. Pam her mother was an old backup singer at Philadelphia International Records. Her father invited her to take on the position of curator for the Historic Strawberry Mansion. She along with her family moved into the historical place of historical significance. In 2005 she graduated from the Philadelphia High School for the Creative and Performing Arts in the class of singer-music major. Sullivan began singing in the school's choir as a contralto later she joined the adult chorus a couple of years later. Sullivan's exposure to secular music was initially limited "I was doing solos in church and someone wanted me to sign to an evangelical label when I had turned eleven, however I wasn't at the point of doing that," she recalls. "Then McDonald's offered a competition to children from major cities. It was then that I had the chance to perform What God Wills on Showtime Apollo. My audience was very accommodating." She sang with Stevie Wonder at his grandson's birthday party at 13. Sullivan was signed initially to Jive Records at the age fifteen. She was signed to Jive Records around the age of 15. The singer-songwriter produced an entire album but this album never saw release. Sullivan was ultimately removed from the record label. She had a good working relationship with Missy Elliott. Elliott produced many of her tracks and tracks, such as "Backstabbers", which was produced by Timbaland.
